Professor Clark,

My name is Magdalena Lubach. I'm a student of BMCC for almost two years in the major of nursing. I will tell you a little about myself, what I think, what I learn, what I want to do, and how I feel about my writing. I will explain what I have learned in this class, and what this portfolio should tell you about me. I'll include evetything I think you should know when you think about giving me a grade.

I'm an international student from Poland. I came to the U. S. four years ago with my older brother just to visit my father. However, my planes changed. I was very fascinated and interested in local life that I decided to stay here. I finished a Medical School in Poland in Major of Baby-Sitter. It means, I'm very well educated in developing and taking care of children from newborn till four years old. Therefore, it was very easy for me to find a job as a baby-sitter where I worked for almost a year. Than after a year I decided to go back to school to fulfill my career dreams of being a nurse. First step I did was to improve and learn new skills in English as writing and reading. I took an ESL Classes at Hunter where I finished 8 levels of English program which helped me a lot to pass positively a TOEFL exam. Than in 2003 I was ready to start a college. Now, this is my 4th semester at BMCC in the Major of Nursing. In future, I am planning to finished an education at Hunter and than becomes a Midwife.

I want you to read and grade only one of my papers, because I think it represents my best work. I will include a description of my best paper, why I think it's good, what I learned from writing it, and how it changed from one version to another.

MOTHER KNOWS BEST !!!

My mother is the most important person in my life. She and I have a very rare and unique relationship -we truly are the best of friends. There is not anything about me my Mother does not know. Whether it is good or bad –she is always there for me. She always helps me to make right decisions and I can always count on her. She doesn’t dictate to me what to do, she just knows which way for me is the best to follow into the future. My mother is a nurse and since I remember I have always admired her personality and work, which she has been doing to help others. She always used to tell me that Nursing is one of the most beautiful and noble jobs to do in life for those who want to help others . Of course, she wanted me to be one of them. However, I couldn’t believe and follow her thoughts until the day when I saw how she fulfilled her nurse's duties.

When I was twelve I witnessed a bad car accident. I saw and heard things most children never see: damaged and injured bodies, agonizing and screaming pleas for help, police and ambulance sirens, screams of pain, and sights of agony. Car parts came flying across the streets and some landed on my feet. My mother heard the unusual noises outside, went out, and took me inside. Then, because she is a very good and educated nurse, she made the first step to help those injured people. I wanted my mother and I was even further upset that I was pulled inside instead of being close to her as she tended the injured. However, I was watching this tragedy and admiring how my mother was helping save other people’s lives.
That night, I began having recurring nightmares, in which I heard the screams, saw the damaged bodies and flying car parts over and over again. Also, I began to refuse playing outside because I didn’t want to see the place where the accident happened. Nevertheless, even though that I had experienced the bad car accident and sometimes had nightmares about it, I still wanted to know what happened that afternoon and admire my mother’s brave achievements which saved people’s lives.

From that moment, I knew that helping others would be the wonderful career path to follow into the future. When I was fifteen years old I made my first step in my life carrier. I went to the Medical School and I majored in Early Childhood Education and got a diploma after four years of hard studing. Of course, my mother was very proud of me and told me that I should continue my career goals in Nursing specialization. So, after I come here, I decided to be a nurse because my interests of being a nurse deepen every day and it started to interested me profoundly. Now, this is my fourth semester at BMCC in the major of Nursing. In fact, I am very thankful to my mom, who always knows best, for simplifying my career path to follow into my future.

This is some of the other work I've done--feel free to look at it.

Position Paper-Magdalena Lubach. In this paper, I take a position on a controversial issue of Environment, and I defend that position. I try to argue and presuade the reader how convenient it is to live in NY without a car.

Kun Lin: Hi, Magdalena. After reading your introdution, I guest you must be a patient and kind person because these great characters that you have are the factors which lead you to be a baby-sitter or a nurse. I think the requirement for the nursing major student is a little bit strict in BMCC, isn't it? The GPA percentage must be kept up to 3.8 something, right? But anyway, hope you can achieve your goal soon!

Admin: You do a very good job of connecting your real-life experience (described in detail) to a clear overall point. I'd like to see you generalize that point a little more at the end--to make it something that could apply to everyone, not just you.

Also, please don't use the "transitional" words like "moreover" and "however." They're not helping your writing, and it would be better to just leave them out.
