Toni’s Morrison essay a “Cinderella Stepsisters” talks about women who are cruel to other women. She compares women on women abuse to the Cinderella story, in that the stepsisters were very bad to Cinderella.

Toni Morrison urges, “not to participate in the oppression of your sister” by this she means that women should be united. Women are supposed to come together to make peace instead of being cruel to each other. For instance, in her essay she says “Mothers who set fire to school buses are women, and another woman, not an agency, has to tell them to stay their hands, women who stop the promotion of another women in careers are women, and another woman must come to the victims aid. Social and welfare workers who humiliate their clients may be women, and another women colleagues have to deflect their anger.” She’s trying to set examples saying that women who are bosses shouldn’t take out their anger out on their employees, especially if they’re women. They should be respectful and act professional. Women should help each one another move up in position, not take one another down.

I believe that oppression does exist today because I see it everyday. I would see females who would be cruel to other girls just because they’re jealous of them. I personally feel that jealousy plays a role in oppression because most women can’t stand when another woman has more attention then they do. Also, today women get jealous when somebody else making more money at their job than they are. It’s just something natural for them because it goes back many years. In Tony’s essay she states “Soon you will be in position to do the very same thing. Whatever your back ground rich or poor –whatever the history of education in your family-five generations or one-you have taken advantage…and you will have their power.” She’s saying that each woman will experience cruelty because women are always competing. They are always challenging each other because a female wants to over power females to prove she’s better than the other women.

I personally feel that this will go on for years to come because women are so complicated to understand. Women just enjoy competing against each other whether if it’s about having better clothes, jobs, or even boyfriends. I still think that women should unite instead of challenging one another. They should be respectful ladies to each other.
