Dear professor Clark,

My name is Maria Mendez, I am from Ecuador. I am going to introduce a little bit about myself. I am a student at BMCC and this is my third semester. My major is nursing and I’m completing all the pre-requirement for the nursing program before I apply for it. I am a mother of fourth children and I am working hard trying to encourage them the importance of finishing school and Assisting College. My older daughter is in college, the second one is in junior high school, the other one is in fourth grade and my baby is only two years old. All of them are girls.

This semester, I am taking English 101 with professor Ugoretz. It was a pleasure to have him as my instructor. We worked together and learned a lot in class. Also we had fun. I recommend him because he is a good instructor. He helps and makes sure that everybody understands the class. At the begging of the class I was lost, it was hard, because I had to write by myself. I had no idea how to organized and put the ideas together. It was challenging, but with some tutoring and practicing I have achieved the tools that I needed.

My electronic portfolio is based on all the essays that I have done in class. I want you to read and grade one of my papers, because I think it represents my best work from the class. I will include a description of my best paper and I will explain why I picked this essay.

In class Essay--90 minutes--This is the paper I am submitting to be graded for my final portfolio, because it was a timing paper and I was able to show how I could perform in class with time limit--it was the equivalent of the final exam. In terms of learning about writing, this paper helped, and gave me a better idea of this. This is an article about professional women's violence against each other. This is a typical case where a professional power is used to enslave others who are less capable than them. I include plenty of major and important details in my story I worked hard to make readers see, picture, and undestand what happened.

This is some of the other work I’ve done in class—feel free to look at it, but don’t grade them.

Personal narrative— this is a story about something that happened to me when I was a little girl. I include plenty details in my story to make readers see a picture and understand what happened.

Critical Paper--In this paper, I view, listen and experience something, and presented my response--my critical response--to paper. I went beyond summary, into criticism and analysis.

Position Paper-- In this paper, I took a position on a controversial issue, and I supported that position, also I try to argue and persuade the readers.

These are some of the comments from my classmates.
