I have many evidences that could prove this oppression exists today, but I am going to pick some to write about. In my regular routine, I read different newspaper almost daily. One day I read an article from New York Post about a woman killed another woman, the reason for this is that the killer’s boyfriend dumped her and turned to the another woman who was the victim. After the killer was dumped, her boyfriend felt in love with the victim. They love each other very deeply. However, the killer got so jealous of this. She could not stand what had happened to her. Unfortunately, she made a plan and intended to murder the both. Very luckily, the man survived, but the woman got killed. From this article I realized that not only oppression exists, but also it gets worse.
For my second evidence, I personally witnessed the oppression. It should date back to eight or ten years ago. When one of my lovely girl cousins was born into an affluent Chinese family, all of my relatives were so happy. However, everything didn’t look like what we saw. The mother and father of this little baby were not pleased because this new-born girl baby was not what they had been expected. Both of the parents wanted to have a boy baby. The reason why they didn’t want a girl was that they had had a girl. It may be the Chinese tradition; they always want to have at lease a boy in the family. After my little girl cousin was born, her parents and blood sister did not treat her well. They supposed to send this pitiful girl to a poor farmer in a small needy village, about a hundred miles away, but many of my relatives rejected.
I would say my little cousin was lucky at that time, but not really after all. When she was ten years old, her mom often blamed her and hit her for no reason, and her sister never played with her. She was alone and no toys at all to play with. I just didn’t understand why her parents gave a birth to her and not loving and caring her, but instead of hitting and abusing her. I still don’t understand today.
After reading Toni Morrison’s “Cinderella’s Stepsister” I deeply fell sorry for her and learn that it is not wholly a medieval problem, it is quite a contemporary one, according to the article. This article and my stories really represent that the oppression has existed for so long and may still continue to be worse and worse.
