CRITIQUE ON SCARFACE

The movie I chose to criticize was “Scarface”. Al Pacino stars as a Cuban refugee who came to America in search of the American Dream. In the movie Al Pacino’s character, Tony’s Montana gets caught up in the glamorous lifestyle that included money, drugs, women and the nightlife. As he kept rising to power the pressure was just too much. I believe that this movie was extremely violent and unbelievable gory and bloody. The message of this movie is that in order to get power you have to work for it and earn it the honest way.

There are many positive aspects in Scarface. I believe the acting in this movie was astonishing. Al Pacino gives out a strong performance along side Steven Bauer, who plays Manny Rivera and Tony Montana’s best friend. Robert Loggia plays Frank Lopes, Tony’s friend turned enemy. The scenes were also implacably shot. The camera angles that the director used were fascinating in the fact that he was able to glamorize every scene. For example in the club scenes the director was able to make the club seem very flamboyant and it had an 80’s vibe.

In the movie what I liked best was the bond between Al Pacino and Steven Bauer characters. It seemed that they made the characters so realistic because of the way that they communicated. What even surprised me and made it interesting was when Al Pacino spoke Spanish and had the Cuban attitude, which made him look like his real Cuban character.

There were also many negative aspects to the movie “Scarface”. I believe that there was too much profanity used in the movie, because of this I believe that a lot of people were hesitant to watch the movie. In my opinion, the drugs used in this movie were to the maximum. There was way too much drugs used. It seemed like in every scene someone was snorting coke. It was unbelievable.

Overall I feel that this movie should be considered as one of the best gangster films ever made. This movie will leave you stunned because of its hardcore sequence that takes place. Al Pacinos’ character is one of the most violent memorable characters ever produced. His acting is so surreal and his cast members complement his work. I highly recommend this movie but only to mature audiences.
