Should we stop the war in Middle East? I don’t think that we should continue to engage a war in the Middle East. There are three reasons why I think we should stop the war. First, continuing with this war will be expensive. Second, this war has already caused many protests and there is going to be more if we don't stop the war. Third, continuing with this war will cause more casualties. If it continues, many more people will die.

Continuing with this war will bring U.S. economy in to depression. This war has been estimated to cost up to 1.2 billion a month. During a war, there are a lot of expenses that have to be paid. Soldiers' wage, equipments, vehicles, bullets, and bombs are just a few expenses that U.S. government has to pay in order to continue the war. Using expensive fuels to park ships and planes in the harbor cost millions and millions of dollar every month. The most expensive equipment in this war are the smart weapons. The website http://www.csmonitor.com /2001/1030/p2s2-usec.html says, “The Tomahawk, a precision guided missiles costs more than $1 million apiece”. If this war continues, it would costs up to $ 20 billion every year. We should stop this war as soon as possible, so that we can use the money for something that will benefit us like medicare.

Another reason why I think that we should stop this war in the Middle East is that this war can cause chaos in the U.S. On Feb 15, 2003, 11 million people demonstrated against the war in Iraq. These people sat outside of the Pentagon for hours while holding signs and yelling "stop the war". This protest is the biggest event in the history of America. There was another protest on Oct 26, 2002. The website hppt://www.brainyencyclopedia.com says, “Protestors joined on the mall in Washington D.C, the area adjacent to the highest offices of government in the U.S”. These two protests have been peacefully accomplished. But if the war in Iraq continues, there might not be any more peaceful protest.

The final reason why I think that we should stop the war in Iraq is that the longer we stay over there, the more casualties there are. Since the announcement of the combat operations in Iraq, 3,000 soldiers have been injured. Half of those 3,000 soldiers never returned to the battlefield. “12,000 soldiers are treated for illness in Iraq," this was stated in the website http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/. Not only U.S. soldiers were killed and injured in Iraq, but our allies were wounded too. A total of 32,000 of our allied soldiers were wounded or killed. Civilian casualties will also increase if we continue this war in Iraq. 5,000 civilian casualties have been reported. An additional 5,000 civilians will be killed during the end of this year. We must remove our soldiers from the battle. If we lose all of our soldiers in Iraq, who will protect this country from another terrorist attack.

In conclusion, I think that Bush should bring the soldiers back from Iraq because this war is too expensive for us to pay, protest and riot might increase, and casualties might also increase if we do not withdraw our soldiers from Iraq.
