How do you feel about what young people should read? Is SF a good thing for children? Do you remember what kind of stories you most enjoyed as a child?

I think young people should read educational stuff. Stuff that will feed the brain. It should be specific and explained in simple language so that it can be absorbed. Keeping this concept in mind, SF can be too complicated for young children. Most of the cartoons on TV today are straight up SF. They're entertaining but too ficticious.

As a child I used to LOVE bible stories. I had the greatest teacher too! she used to tell the stories in a way that it felt we were there. In a sense bible stories are SF because we are reading/learning something no one in our time has experience. We just believe it through faith. Likewise SF (cartoons, movies, books) are creations from other people that we like/believe.

i agree children should read stories that can make them think about the real thing on a fiction way. I believe that reading is better that watching TV.I seen children acting the same way of TV's programs,movies,and so on....
However, I always just to spend most of my time reading but as an grown woman I'm tired of reading.

Children need simulation and therefore would be better off read then sitting watching meaningless programs.

i'll have to disagree with u. Some programs are really educational. Take channel 13, History Channel for example, and Discovery, and Animal Planet, I love those! if it wasn't for those programs, I wouldn't learn as much English. I also used to watch Jerry Springer show, I know that was meaningless, but it was fun... (beep)

That's true their are many programs that are educational but the time they are watching the T.V could be sent enlightrning themselves on a variety of subjects.

Jerry springer is educational, it teaches you what you shouldnt waste your time watching and how not to behave. it reinforces socila norms in that way.

Well I dont watch it anymore But i found it quiet educational 5 years ago when i watched it regularly. Besides thats the only time of day you can get acess to an abundance of information about home schooling, and even legal aid.
